Promoting entrepreneurship as a catalyst for economic growth.

As a group, we believe in doing well and doing good. This is the philosophy that drives and guides our investment activities. The private sector must play a leading role in Africa’s development in a way that charity and aid cannot -through investment, employment, wealth creation and economic growth. We still believe that Africa needs philanthropy — but a new kind of philanthropy, one that promotes self-sufficiency as an over-riding goal.

Heirs Holdings is proud to support the work of The Tony Elumelu Foundation. Founded in 2010 by Tony O. Elumelu CON, the Foundation is an African-based, African-funded philanthropic organisation that creates impact by empowering Africa’s entrepreneurs as well as producing entrepreneurship-focused research and policy advocacy.

In 2015, the Tony Elumelu Foundation launched the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme, a $100million African initiative to discover and support 10,000 African entrepreneurs over the next decade with a target of creating 1 million new jobs and $10 billion in additional revenues in the process. In the first year of the programme, 1,000 entrepreneurs were selected from 51 African countries from a pool of over 20,000 applicants.

The Tony Elumelu Foundation Advisory Board consists of a cross-section of distinguished global leaders. Its members include Lady de Rothschild, Chief Executive of E.L. Rothschild LLC, Jamie Cooper-Hohn, Chair of Children’s Investment Fund Foundation and former Prime Minister of the Republic of Benin, Lionel Zinsou.

Its founding patron is Professor Michael E. Porter of Harvard Business School, one of the world’s most influential thinkers on management and competitiveness.
