My disappointing culinary experience, yet aesthetically pleasing ambience

Rating: 2/5

I recently had the opportunity to visit Gras twice, a highly anticipated eatery known for its stunning aesthetic and charming ambience. While the restaurant’s visual appeal was certainly impressive, unfortunately, my dining experience fell short of expectations. After my first visit, I specifically went back the second time for the mere purpose of using it for my birthday dinner venue, and it came back to the same result.

Let’s start with the positive aspect—the restaurant’s ambience. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was greeted by a meticulously designed space that exuded elegance and style. The interior decor, with its tasteful combination of colours, lighting, and artistic touches, created an inviting atmosphere that was perfect for a memorable dining experience and a perfect picture space(lol, very important), it gives the same vibe as Kaly if you ask me, just that kaly seems more spacious. The attention to detail in the aesthetic elements truly deserves admiration I must say. From the outside to the inside the outdoor space for shisha and co is giving…

However, what truly matters in a restaurant is the quality of its food and the level of service provided. Unfortunately, in these aspects, Gras Restaurant failed to deliver.

The menu boasted a diverse range of dishes, each promising a culinary adventure. Regrettably, the execution did not match the promised experience. The food I ordered arrived lukewarm, lacking the vibrant flavours I had anticipated. The presentation was satisfactory, but the taste left much to be desired at the times I was there. It was a disappointing realisation, especially considering the restaurant’s reputation.

Additionally, the service left a lot to be desired. The staff seemed overwhelmed and disorganized, the waiter attached to our table on my second visit was more interested in apologising to us rather than doing the actual job (he said “I’m sorry” like a million times). It took an inordinate amount of time for our orders to be taken, and the wait between courses was noticeably lengthy. The waitstaff appeared aloof and inattentive, not providing the level of attentiveness one would expect from a restaurant of this calibre.

Despite the shortcomings in the culinary department and service, it is important to acknowledge the potential that Gras possesses. With improvements in the quality of the dishes and more efficient and attentive service, this establishment could truly become a remarkable dining destination.

In conclusion, while Gras may captivate you with its visually appealing ambience, the overall dining experience was below par. The boring food quality and the unsatisfactory service overshadowed the restaurant’s aesthetic charm. I sincerely hope that the management takes these concerns into account because I pointed out some of these issues to them on my second visit and got the usual “We are sorry Ma”, you know we are always too quick to issue apologies in this part of the world, but not too quick in dealing with the actual issues at hand. They need to reevaluate their culinary offerings and enhance their service to match the allure of their stunning establishment.

1. Name of Restaurant: Gras Restaurant Limited
2. Location: 65 Adeola Odeku Str, Victoria Island
3. Experience: My experience was not a pleasant one both times I was there, and I am not difficult to please.
4. Parking: I really can not say because we used valet parking.
5. Menu: It’s unfortunate when a dining experience falls so short of expectations, especially when one is hopping for an enjoyable meal. The menu is just there.
6. Extra advantage: Location is central
7. Why? The food lacked flavour and my companion’s meal was undercooked on my second visit.
8. Damage? Quite Pricy
9. What meal(s)/drink(s) would you recommend? The only thing that tasted alright was the Flat Bread which is vegetarian pizza. Any drink is okay.
10. Rate the service: 2/ 5
11. Verdict? Would you recommend this place? Not when there are better restaurants.
12. Any additional information about this place you’d like to share? none

This is me giving my honest review.
