The Mistake that Cost Fred the Deal of his Dreams…and How You Can Avoid It

It was a bright Sunday morning in Lagos. Fred was in church, but his mind wasn’t on the sermon. His eyes kept drifting toward one of the most sought-after event planners in the city – a woman whose job could change the fortunes of his small printing business.

He had tried to speak to her before, but she was always surrounded. Too many people, too little time. This morning, just for a moment, their eyes locked. Fred seized it. He stepped forward, heart racing, and gave the pitch of his life. Words rolled out of him like he had been rehearsing for years.

The woman listened, smiled, and said:

“Alright, young man, show me what you’ve got. I have an event on Wednesday. Impress me, and you’ll be my go-to guy for all my projects. Deal?”

Fred almost jumped for joy. This was it. His big break.

He spent time planning, designing, sourcing materials, and working tirelessly. He was halfway into printing when the power went off, but he wasn’t fazed. Fred was a planner; he had backups on backups – diesel for the big generator and petrol for the small one. Nothing would stop him. Except… he didn’t plan for human error.

His apprentice, confused by the instructions, poured diesel into the small generator and petrol into the big one. Fred only discovered it when the big generator started to make funny noises and lights began to flicker. He switched to the small gen – same disaster.

Panic. Time slipping away. He called an electrician to fix it, but the damage was extensive. The tank had to be drained, flushed, and some parts needed repairs, which would take hours or even days.

With barely any time to spare, Fred rushed his half-finished work to another printer who had power, but the equipment wasn’t right, so the prints came out poorly. When he finally delivered them, the woman’s smile was gone. She was unimpressed. Fred had lost money, lost face, and worst of all, lost the chance of a lifetime.

Now, every Sunday, he hides when he sees her in church.

But here’s the truth: it didn’t have to end this way. Life happens, yes. We can’t control everything. But with power, there’s a better way. Solar doesn’t need diesel or petrol. It doesn’t wait on NEPA. It doesn’t rely on luck. And with UCEE’s Solar Energy Loan, you don’t even have to bear the cost up front. Payments are spread over 24 months, lightening the load while giving you dependable power, anytime.

Fred’s story is a cautionary tale. Yours doesn’t have to be.

Switch to solar today with UCEE’s Solar Energy Loan and focus on growing your business, not fixing generators.
