1.Determine your style: Before starting, identify your personal style and preferences. Browse through magazines, websites, and social media platforms to gather inspiration and create a vision for your home decor.

2. Plan and prioritize: Make a plan for each room or area you want to decorate. Consider the function of the space, the desired mood, and any specific requirements. Prioritize the rooms that are frequently used or the ones that need an immediate makeover.

3. Declutter and organize: Before decorating, declutter and organize your space. Get rid of unnecessary items, donate or sell what you no longer need, and find storage solutions for remaining belongings. A clean and clutter-free space provides a better canvas for decorating.

4. Choose a color scheme: Select a color scheme that complements your style and creates the desired ambiance. Consider the psychology of colors and how they can affect mood. You can choose a monochromatic scheme, complementary colors, or create contrast with neutrals and pops of bold hues.

5. Focus on lighting: Lighting plays a crucial role in creating a welcoming atmosphere. Combine different lighting sources, such as overhead fixtures, floor lamps, table lamps, and candles, to provide layered and adjustable illumination. Consider both functional and decorative lighting options.

6. Incorporate texture and patterns: Introduce various textures and patterns to add depth and visual interest to your space. Combine smooth and rough textures, such as velvet, fur, or woven materials. Use patterned rugs, throw pillows, curtains, and wallpaper to create focal points and break up monotony.

7. Mix old and new: Incorporate a mix of old and new elements to create a unique and eclectic style. Blend vintage or antique pieces with modern furniture or accessories. This combination adds character and tells a story within your home.

8. Pay attention to scale and proportion: Ensure that the furniture and decor items are appropriately scaled for the room. Avoid overcrowding or leaving large empty spaces. Maintain a balanced arrangement, both horizontally and vertically, to achieve a harmonious look.

9. Add personal touches: Infuse your personality into the decor by displaying meaningful artwork, photographs, or sentimental objects. Showcase your hobbies, travels, or interests through tastefully placed items that reflect who you are.

10. Don’t forget about functionality: While aesthetics are important, remember to prioritize functionality. Ensure that the furniture and layout cater to the practical needs of the room. Balance style with comfort and convenience.

11. Experiment and have fun: Home decor is a creative process, so don’t be afraid to experiment and try new things. Mix and match different elements, rearrange furniture, and play with colors until you achieve a look that makes you happy.

Remember, home decor is a personal expression of your style and taste. Trust your instincts and create a space that reflects your personality and brings you joy.

    Nice piece Kemi.

The functionality over aesthetics part is relatable. If you are not careful, you will have a home clustered with unecesary items that may not even be worth anything when cosdering it for yardsale if at all.

These are very insightful tips, especially the decluttering and reorganising part, because a lot of items that we hold so dear, aren’t actually useful anymore in value or other wise.
