Lola’s Kitchen – Mushroom Burgers

For this month’s HH People, I was given the task to share a dish/recipe of mine. I’d actually taken care of this last weekend at a get-together at a friend’s house; I had the food all laid out, my phone out to take the photos but I had everything served up and eaten before I remembered to actually take photos!

Well, I decided to take care of this over the holiday weekend when on Wednesday evening on my way home from a friend’s birthday celebration, I was run over by a way-ward valet.

Nevertheless, ladies and gentlemen of Heirs Holdings, I found a photographer and hobbled my way around the kitchen to bring you a (new) Lola specialty, the mushroom burger.

What you need:

  • Ground beef (half a kilo)
  • Spicy mayonnaise (I used Heinz)
  • Half a large-size red onion
  • Half a can of sliced mushrooms with the stems
  • Salt
  • A teaspoon of sugar
  • A1 seasoning
  • Italian seasoning
  • Gouda Cheese
  • Old Bay Seasoning
  • Lettuce OR burger buns

Step 1

Slice the onions thinly and pop them into a frying pan with some olive oil until they start to wilt. Add a pinch of salt and the teaspoon of sugar and let simmer a little bit more. Add the mushrooms in at this point and let them wilt and brown up. Set them aside once fully sautéed.

Step 2

Put the ground beef in a bowl.  Add the salt, Italian seasoning, spicy mayonnaise, A1 Sauce and old bay seasoning. I used about half a spoon full of each (not heaped). Knead the mix in the bowl until completely blended.  Form the burgers with your hands. This mix should make you about 4/5 burgers in total

Step 3

Place the patties in a clean pan over the fire. Watch closely and flip over when the bottom is well browned. I like my burgers medium well so you will know they are done when there’s little to no more pink in the middle

Step 4

I toasted my buns in a frying pan; just slice and place face down in a clean pan. I immediately place the sliced cheese on the toasted bun so it melted into the bread.

Step 5

Serve the burgers on top of the melted cheese. Add the sautéed mushrooms and onions on top of the burger.

Step 6

Eat 😀

P.S.  You can add other garnishes to this i.e. lettuce, ketchup, additional mayo or A1 sauce.

A healthier alternative is to lose the bun entirely and wrap it in lettuce.

Either way, its best eaten hot.

Enjoy!
