Elumelu, CFR, was today conferred with the Commander in the National Order of Gabonese Merit (Commandeur dans l’ordre national du mérite gabonais) award by the President of the Gabonese Republic, H.E. Brice Oligui Nguema.
The prestigious award, presented in person by President Nguema at the Palais du bord de mer in Libreville (the Presidential Palace), recognises Mr. Elumelu’s extraordinary contributions to Africa’s socio-economic transformation and nation-building through strategic investment, youth entrepreneurship, and private sector leadership across the continent.
United Bank for Africa (UBA), the Group’s flagship financial services institution, has operated in Gabon since 2009, delivering banking access to hundreds of thousands of individuals and businesses, supporting financial inclusion and economic empowerment.
In addition, the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), Heirs Holdings’ philanthropic arm, has supported 75 Gabonese entrepreneurs over the last decade, equipping them with seed capital of $5,000 each, training, and a thriving pan-African platform to scale their ideas. These entrepreneurs form part of Africa’s largest entrepreneurial ecosystem, generating jobs, revenue, and hope in communities.
