Opeyemi was a pure delight. Her ever-present smile and unshakable positive energy lit up every room, touching lives with her warmth.
A graduate of Business Administration from the University of Benin, she joined United Capital as an intern in 2023. Though she came in with little knowledge of Compliance, Opeyemi showed incredible determination and eagerness to learn. In just one year, she became pivotal to the Group’s compliance efforts, especially in KYC, customer due diligence, and onboarding. She was a brilliant mind and an indispensable colleague who ensured work was always done with efficiency and excellence.
Beyond work, Ope was simple in outlook, kind in spirit, and deeply passionate about sports. She captained the female volleyball team and sometimes even joined the men on the football pitch. For her, sport wasn’t just a game; it was her way of expressing courage, joy, and freedom.
To me, Ope was more than a colleague. She was a true friend, a sweet, happy soul who became part of my family and my close circle. I have countless memories with her, and I cherish each one. I can still hear her playful “Ehn ehn na” in that Teletubby-like voice that made everyone laugh. She was carefree, light-hearted, and never took life too seriously, a reminder of the importance of joy.
Her presence brightened every workday. With her office right next to mine, I saw her more than five times a day. I always looked forward to my morning hugs, our food banter (because I’m a foodie!), and those moments when I would insist that she take her one-hour lunch break, since she was such a workaholic. Ope had a way of making the workplace feel less like work and more like home.
If I could thank her for anything, it would be for being a true friend and sister. She was the life of the party, a partner-in-crime, and at the same time, hardworking and passionate, giving her best to United Capital until the very end.
The lesson I carry from Opeyemi’s life is to live with joy, work with passion, and never lose the lightness that makes life beautiful. She will always be remembered, not just as a brilliant colleague, but as family.
