OMG, I think you’re Suffering from ‘Tomorrow Syndrome’!

Do you have any of these symptoms?

  • You are always stressed
  • You are always on edge, anxious
  • Nobody can count on you
  • You can’t trust yourself
  • You are jealous of everyone else’s success
  • You are full of excuses and sh*t
  • You just watch life go by

Sometime ago, I opened my jotter to begin the day and almost fell from my chair from the crazy long list of things to do; most of them are things that could have been done much earlier. I was angry, frustrated and less confident than my usual self.

It suddenly dawned on me. I have Procrastinitis!

New Word to be pitched to the Council of Dictionary Elders – Procrastinitis: The condition where you keep pushing tasks till tomorrow and that particular tomorrow never comes.

Fortunately, I am not alone in this contagious disease. Most of us have it…in fact, even you reading this may be in denial. Yes, you, my friend.

Procrastination should be man’s favourite word right after ‘Ice cream’ or ‘Money’ or ‘Holiday’. For some reason, some dude or dudette somewhere invented the word ‘tomorrow’ and give it a different meaning than what it really is – that land so near yet so far away that never seems to come for some people.

If you’re like me, you probably wish you had started hitting the gym a year ago, saving one-one naira a month ago, said yes to the love of your life before he decided marriage is not his thing…you get the point…

There’s no perfect time to begin. No, scratch that. The only perfect time is NOW. N.O.W – now! (Am I screaming loud enough?)

And if you keep waiting, this is what you will become: A person suffering from Procastinitis.

Remember, we have only one life to live. Just one like this. No duplicate. No second chance. We will never get a chance to be 20 years old again, to be 25, or 40. One day, we will wake up and we’re 90, tired and maybe one step away from heaven. Starting early gives you all the space and time to make your mistakes, learn from them and move on quickly. No time, my brother, my sister.

If you are reading this, grab a jotter and a pen. Write down all those things you’ve pushed off till the land of tomorrow. Then start working on them!

I hope you will never look back and regret the choices you could have made and I hope you never have to say: I could have, but tomorrow spoilt my show.
