Empower Africa’s Youth, Elumelu Says at the Obama Summit

3rd November 2017

African philanthropist and investor, Tony O. Elumelu, joined other global civic leaders at the inaugural Summit organised by the Obama Foundation to discuss innovative ideas and creative solutions to solve the world’s most challenging social problems.
The two-day immersive event, which was held on October 31 – November 1, 2017 in Chicago, United States, inspired and empowered participants to create positive changes in their communities. Approximately 500 civic leaders from around the world hosted lectures, workshops and interactive events.
At the plenary session, “Building Entrepreneurial Ecosystems in Emerging Markets”, Elumelu spoke about the urgent need to empower Africa’s youth and spur on their entrepreneurial ideas to encourage development on the continent.

“For Africa to transform, we need young men and women to be economically empowered,” he said.
Elumelu commended Nigeria’s constant improvement of its business environment, following the recently released World Bank’s Report of Nigeria moving up 24 points on the Ease of Doing Business Index. He also shared his personal business principles, stating that entrepreneurship requires the ability to think deeply, execute ideas and maximise opportunities.

A representative of the Obama Foundation was also present at the recently concluded Tony Elumelu Foundation in support of Africa’s largest gathering of African entrepreneurs.
