If you have ever been in the midst of young men having a conversation, the phrase \u2018Bro Code\u2019 is something you will always hear. It is not unusual to hear young men say this like \u2018remember the bro code\u2019 when there is an argument or a friendly banter between men and women especially on social media.<\/p>\n
Because of this, many have come to understand the term bro code as men supporting and protecting other men or their male friends whenever they have an issue in relation with women. It is also termed as men helping their male friends escape accountability.<\/p>\n
But I see Bro Code as something different from the current and popular meaning. Bro Code to me is helping your fellow men become better men, holding them accountable and helping them achieve their goals.<\/p>\n
A lot of men were raised and conditioned to not be vulnerable, never show emotions and never share their burdens. This has led to a staggering rate of suicide amongst men. This in turn affects the society as men are crucial in having a safe society and in nation building. When men neglect their roles or are found wanting, there is a gap left to be filled.<\/p>\n
Bro Code means providing a haven for your fellow men to share their burdens, worries, and also mentoring young boys, helping them avoid making the same mistakes you made, teaching them to be responsible members of the society and most importantly, helping them be accountable.<\/p>\n
