In my own opinion o! Actually, not just my opinion, I have data to back this up. Anyway, let’s not get into all that now. Here’s a quick situation report before I get into the patty of it. The IJGBs have all returned to their bases. Well, most of them. And the Christmas decor around the city is still being taken down, ever so slowly. Of course, ever so slowly. After all, December is the most wonderful time of the year. Who will blame us for wanting to keep the love and light around for as long as possible?!

Anyway, away from the Christmas cheer and the love and light of it all, like clockwork, everyone complained about the length of January. Right after the “don’t worry about my future” phase that is Detty December, was the proverbial 90 days of January. But Mama, look at how we made it! We made it to the month of love!

V-day is on a Monday, guys! And Lagos restaurants will be swarming with lovers looking to have romantic date nights and what have you? Still not sure where to go with your loved ones? Well, the other day, I made a “Pitstop” at Pitstop. I did the heavy lifting so you can decide if you too will just make a Pitstop on V-day. So, here’s the tea…

Name of Restaurant: PitStop Lagos.

Location: Victoria Island, Lagos – 92A Younis Bashorun Street, off Ajose Adeogun Street.

Experience: This is one of those picturesque Lagos restaurants but with a twist to it. They have a whole healthy living, fitness/cycling vibe going on. There are loads of bicycles all around the restaurant and as part of the decor as well. I hear there’s a bicycle shop on the first floor of the restaurant, but I didn’t get to go there. They also have a whole cycling community. If that’s your vibe, you may want to check it out. In terms of parking, there is space for about 4 cars to park just by the gate of the restaurant. Once that is occupied, you have to park by the roadside, typical Victoria Island restaurant style. They also have a nice outdoor space. If natural air and all that is your vibe, you may stay outside. The indoor space is also nice, spacious, and clean. The general atmosphere is casual and cosy.

Menu: Well, we were a party of three and we had what they call the Sharing Platter, which was basically grilled beef steak, jumbo prawns, half chicken, pork chops, jollof rice and roasted vegetables. We also had wings and fries. For drinks, I had a cocktail called Quick Release, which was mainly vodka, sparkling prosecco, and tropical fruit. My friend had the Pitstop Zombie, which was basically premium rum, coconut and cranberry. They also have healthy options on the menu and some meals for vegetarians as well.

Recommended food/drinks: Their wings and fries were good, so I recommend that. My cocktail was nice – Quick Release, remember? It was good so you can try that out as well.

Damage (Average cost to dine here): The platter we had was N20,000. My cocktail was 6,000. My friend’s cocktails cost 4,500 each. And the wings and fries cost N2,800 or was it N3,800? Can’t remember now. Anyway, the total damage was about N38,800 for the 3 of us. That’s an average of N13,000 per person.

General Comments: You can definitely go here on a solo date. You can also go with a group of friends and with your family – definitely kid-friendly, although I went here on a Friday night and there were no kids there, obviously.

Before I went to PitStop, I had heard many people swear by how their food is so good. I didn’t have the best experience food-wise. Not bad really but definitely not enough for me to gush about it to someone else. We just sort of pegged it at what we ordered – the platter was so heavy on meat and what have you. It just wasn’t giving what it was supposed to give. Get it? If you don’t get it… Anyway, the wings and fries were good though.

The managers (I think) were friendly and checked in on us a few times. The waiters were nice and friendly and maybe a bit too nice. Because…tell me why I was talking to my friend about a double debit I got when I paid for a meal at another restaurant we visited in December, and the waiter butts in to find out more about the so-called double debit?

“Oh, did you pay through POS”?
In my mind, I was like “Fam, if you don’t get the…”!

So rude! What was he going to do about it anyway? Help me talk to the bank? I actually don’t mind, at this stage because I need my money back ahh. Since December o! Anyway, I digressed. Back to the matter.

Verdict: Will I go back to Pitstop? Will I recommend it? Hmmm, I don’t mind going back here but I guess I just have to be a bit more careful in selecting what to have. So yes, I will still recommend this place! Although let me not lie to you, this place does not scream romance.

But if casual and a little bit of cosy is your thing, you may consider going here for V-day.

SideBar: “If music be the food of love, then play on”. If for some reason, after your date on V-day, you want to keep the fire burning, you can turn on some good music on the drive back home! Here are a few recommendations on love songs to play: Make you Mine by PUBLIC; Rather Be by Clean Bandit; Nine Million Bicycles by Katie Melua; Make you Happy by Celine Dion; and of course, Hrs and Hrs by Muni Long!

Happy Love Month, people!

PitStop Patty So Detty December is over – the “dettiest” December in recent history.
