And in our effort to do everything we can to ensure our kids are happy, we risk raising children who end up feeling entitled.&nbsp; Unfortunately, most parents are totally unaware of the damage that they are causing and by the time it comes to light it may be too late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Signs of\nEntitlement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Nothing is ever enough<\/li><li>The throw tantrums when they do not get their way\nand cannot handle being told no<\/li><li>They believe that rules apply to others and not to\nthem<\/li><li>They crave an unreasonable amount of attention from\none or more people close to them<\/li><li>They do not accept responsibility for things they\ndo wrong<\/li><li>They want what they want when they want it<\/li><li>Blames others for all the bad things in their life<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It\nmanifests in a total disconnect from reality; they can\u2019t handle rejection and\ninterpret it as a lack of love or care.&nbsp; Close relationships become\naffected, especially within the family as other children have grown up in the\nsame household seeing how differently one child was treated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How we\ncan avoid the problem:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>We need to learn to say no to our children, they\nshould not be allowed to get and do whatever they want<\/li><li>Do not do everything for them. They are quite cable\nof making their beds, washing dishes, tidying up their rooms.&nbsp; It will not\nkill them<\/li><li>They need to learn to be responsible for their\nactions. Teach them to apologise when they do something wrong<\/li><li>Teach them the value of working hard to get what\nyou want. They need to understand that life is not served to them on a platter<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We must\nas parents try out hardest to ensure that we do not focus on overcompensating\nany of our children because we believe that child needs more of our attention\nthan others.&nbsp; No should mean no and tantrums shouldn\u2019t always be a reason\nto give in.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Nneka Jibunoh Parenthood can be one of the most difficult things in the world.
