The Ember months officially start from the month of September\u00a0to December. This period records a high line-up of activities such as weddings, birthday parties, remembrances and Christmas\u00a0celebrations, etc…unfortunately, it is also characterised by a high level of social vices.<\/p>\n

While it is true that the police and other security\u00a0agencies\u00a0continue to deploy measures to combat\u00a0crime and protect lives and properties of\u00a0citizens, there are several things we can do to reduce our exposure to these unwholesome activities, especially during this festive period.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

  1. Do not talk about\u00a0cash transactions\u00a0you have already done or about to do in public places and mind who knows about it.<\/li>\n
  2. Carrying out a proper journey management plan and having a good knowledge of the area you plan to visit before embarking on any trip significantly reduces your risk.<\/li>\n
  3. Before embarking on your trip, avoid talking about it in the public places and mind who is aware of it too.<\/li>\n
  4. Ensure that vehicles are in good working condition and all particulars are valid \u2013 this includes driver\u2019s license and vehicle particulars.<\/li>\n
  5. Leave a copy of your travel\u00a0itinerary\u00a0with a trusted family member or friend.<\/li>\n
  6. Avoid giving rides to \/ accepting rides from strangers \u2013 criminals have been known to use such situations to target unsuspecting people.<\/li>\n
  7. Ensure that luggage and valuables are placed well out of sight.<\/li>\n
  8. Do not mention how long you will be away from your home in public places especially if you will be off for long.<\/li>\n
  9. Avoid night travels as much as possible \u2013 ensure all journeys are\u00a0completed\u00a0during the day or make advance\u00a0arrangement\u00a0for sleepovers.<\/li>\n
  10. Avoid making unplanned stops e.g. bathroom breaks, especially at lonely areas \/ isolated routes. Populated areas are generally safer for such stops.<\/li>\n
  11. Exercise restraint and be patient with government security agents during security checks\u00a0to avoid unnecessary delays \u2013 be polite and courteous in your responses.<\/li>\n
  12. Drive defensively and maintain high\u00a0alertness\u00a0throughout the journey.<\/li>\n
  13. Try as much as possible to avoid night travels. Ensure all your work activities are completed during the early hours of the day.<\/li>\n
  14. If you notice any strange movement around your house, or you suspect that you are being trailed or followed, report to the nearest police station to make a formal report.<\/li>\n
  15. Avoid giving rides to \/ accepting rides from strangers \u2013 criminals have been known to use such situations to target unsuspecting people<\/li>\n
  16. If you suspect you are being monitored or trailed, drive to the nearest police station or public place and seek emergency assistance.<\/li>\n
  17. Avoid phone calls as much as possible while driving and\u00a0DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
