During the luncheon, Elumelu advised the delegation on how the U.S. government and business leaders can tap into the most fertile possibilities that the continent has to offer and which opportunities exist. Later in the day at an evening reception hosted by U.S. Ambassador W. Symington and the Consul General, the topic of discussion was the explosive potential that exists if Nigerian and American business leaders partner in investing for Africa’s future.

Power was one of the topics of discussion throughout the day, one sector with the potential to revolutionise the way we live in Africa and the way we do business, and a sector that the US and Nigeria can partner in to deliver transformative economic development.

“For those of us who are entrepreneurs, who are in business – and for every Nigerian and every African – you know the importance of improving access to electricity to give permanence and life to access to light across Africa,” Elumelu said.

“We invest in key sectors of the African economy because through our philosophy of Africapitalism, we believe that the private sector has an important role to play in Africa’s growth and prosperity. Through our focus on key sectors, our creation of opportunities for local and international investors, and our support to African entrepreneurs through our philanthropic arm, we are committed to improving lives and transforming the continent“.
